A Common Question

13 Jan

People often ask me why I carry a gun. My simple response is, “for self defense.” If they wish to push the issue further I usually say something like, “because I’m a good citizen” or “in case someone needs help.” I try to avoid the Second Amendment argument because it can get drawn out.

Many anti-gun folk will say, “but the majority of those who carry a gun will never have to use it.” To which I respond, “good. That’s the way it should be. Don’t presume that because I carry a gun, I want to use it. However, don’t confuse my desire to avoid that action with meaning that I am unwilling to take that action.”

A better example of why I carry a gun can be found here. Please, go read it. You’ll see what can happen when one man gets involved.
