You have to love this headline from MSNBC:
More than $83 million spent on Prop 8
Mormon church spent nearly $190,000 on effort to ban Calif. gay marriage
The article goes on to explain that $83 million was spent in total by both sides. Pro-Prop 8’ers spent $39.9 million, while Anit-Prop 8’ers spent just over $3 million more, $43.3 million.
Here’s the kicker. The LDS Church spent $190,000 total. More than half, or $97,000, went to the time staff of the Utah-based Mormon Church devoted to the Yes on 8 campaign, according to the church’s report. Another $21,000 was for the use of church buildings and equipment during the campaign. Most of the rest went to airline tickets, hotels and meals for church officials. The value of the Church’s in-kind contribution [was] less than one-half of one percent of the total funds raised for the Yes on 8 campaign….
But the Mormons made the headline! Focus on the Family spent five times what the Mormons did, but you can’t go after Evangelicals – that’s not PC.
