Okay, so last year Springfield Armory introduced their XDm series of pistols. Though Springfield says that the XDm will not replace the base XD model, one has to wonder. Say Uncle linked over to an announcement this morning for Springfield’s new XDm 3.8. What Springfield has done is simply cut back the barrel on their XDm 9 from 4.5″ to 3.8″, stating that it’s more concealable. I always thought the difficult portion of a handgun to conceal is the grip, which is still full-sized on the 3.8. I may be too early to tell but the first sign that we’re seeing the end of the XD line will be a compact/sub-compact version of the XDm, and a shorter barrel is the first step.
Where is Springfield Going With This?
