When Strengths Become Weaknesses

11 Jun

D turned on the TV this morning and stumbled across an address by Dallin H. Oaks on KBYU.

The Lord warned the first generation of Latter-day Saints to “beware concerning yourselves” (D&C 84:43). I seek to remind each of us of the mortal susceptibilities and devilish diversions that can unite to produce our spiritual downfall.

He goes on to cover such topics as:

  1. Gospel Hobbies
  2. Misapplication of Spiritual Gifts
  3. A Desire to Be Led in All Things
  4. An Intense Focus on Goals
  5. Neglect or Distortion of Family Duties

and others.  Go. Read. Enjoy.

Did you like the “Social Consciousness Not Tempered by Other Values” in relation to the article you were telling me about today regarding illegal immigration and that man wanting Church leaders to take a stand? “My social conscience should not cause me to coerce others to use their time or means to fulfill my objectives.” I’m not saying that man “coerced” anyone, but I found the correlation between the article and the talk very interesting.
